We saw her on the security footage way before she jumped the fence. It surprised all of us when she actually did it. Travis has many enemies in all shapes and sizes, so we don’t mess around when someone trespasses. But damn, I got a little hard when she took down Joe. When they brought her in, I couldn’t help but notice she had the most beautiful body I’ve ever seen. But nothing could have surprised me more than when I walked into the room and met those eyes. They were familiar. Travis’s eyes are the same color. Although Travis’s eyes don’t do much for me, hers are hard to look away from. It’s like they hypnotize me.
Travis wants me to see if I can use my charm to get her to talk. Charm, my ass. He means my looks. And fuck if I care if it’ll make her talk to get her out of here faster. I’m not really sure what is going on, but when Travis saw the name of the girl, he flipped out. He told me that wasn’t her name. So here I am, staring into her Caribbean blue eyes, trying my fucking hardest not to get hard.
“If you tell us who you really are and why you’re really here, we’ll let you go on your merry way.” She doesn’t seem afraid. Which is a huge mistake. She should be. You don’t mess with Travis Stein.
“I’ve told you my story. Numerous times, in fact. I’m sorry you don’t believe me, but that’s all I’ve got,” she says as she rolls her eyes. I know one thing for sure; she’s from the south. Her sweet, southern drawl is sexy, too.
Okay, this isn’t working. How the hell does Travis expect me to get her to talk? She seems to be sticking with her story. It’s not a totally unbelievable story, but I can tell she’s lying; her pupils slightly dilate every time she tells it. I need to establish a friendly connection with her. I push off the chair. Maybe if I sit on the bed it will help instead of sitting right in front of her trying to intimidate her, which is working oh so well, I sarcastically think.
“If you’re not planning on taking my handcuffs off, you better stay the fuck back. My legs aren’t tied down.” I stop walking and stare at her. Did she threaten me? Fuck, why does that excite me? Not that she could actually pin me down, but I’m sure she’d try. I debate continuing my initial thought because I’d be lying if I didn’t want to see what she could do.
“Oh, sweetheart, that sounds like a challenge.” I smirk.
“Fuck you,” she mumbles.
Fuck yes, please.
“Baby, you’d like that, wouldn’t you?” I tease.
“Um… a little too presumptuous? I hate to break it to you, but not all women like the egotistical, narcissistic assholes.” She snickers and lifts an eyebrow.
“I’ve yet to meet one who can resist,” I say as I walk back to the chair. I sit down and lift my hands behind my head. Tilting my head, I flash her a knowing smile as she glances at my flexed arms and chest.
The door opens behind me and Travis walks in. “Jett, can you wait outside?”
Well, fuck. I’m rather enjoying myself. Knowing I don’t have a choice, I get up and wink at Renee before leaving. I hear her say “asshole” right before I leave. I let out a booming laugh as I close the door. I wonder if I have time to take a cold shower.
Chapter Seven
THAT MAN IS frustrating. He’s a man-whore who thinks he can have whatever the hell he wants. I could see the desire in his lust-filled eyes. Well, I don’t think so, buddy. Now if only my body would stop reacting to him. I mean I’m a freaking prisoner and my body seems to think now is a good time for a hook-up. I close my eyes and release a heavy sigh. I open them meeting Travis’s eyes.
Travis once again sits in the chair directly in front of me. “I know your name is not Renee. You will not leave this place until you tell me who you really are,” he says in a cold voice.
I stare at him. Even if I had not read about him, I can tell by talking to him that he is a very dangerous man. He seems certain that my name isn’t Renee. I’m not sure why, though. Will he believe me if I tell him my real name? For some reason I can’t say it out loud. Intuition is telling me to shut up and keep quiet.
“Fine. We’ll play this game your way. Unfortunately, you will lose.” And with that he gets up and walks out.
Jett walks back in with the other two thugs behind him. They both have guns in their hands. I shake my head and laugh while I rattle my cuffs. It’s not like I can do anything. Jett walks up to the bed with a smirk. He also has a gun, but his is holstered. I stare at him questioning what he’s going to do, readying myself for a fight, if need be.
“I’m going to unlock the handcuffs so you can go to the bathroom. Don’t fucking try anything or they are going to shoot you,” he warns. I’m sure the asshole with the broken fingers would love a reason to shoot me. I do have to pee, so I guess I should behave. He unlocks one handcuff, which lets me bring my hands down. I shake them and wiggle my fingers. It feels awesome getting the blood circulating. Getting up off the bed, I walk into the bathroom. Jett is immediately behind me.
“What do you think you’re doing?” I whip around, stopping in the doorway. We’re almost chest to chest. His closeness catches me off guard, and I have to step back to catch my breath.
“Coming with you to the bathroom.” He shrugs.
“The hell you are. I can’t pee in front of you.”
“Sweetheart, there is a separate little room with a toilet. I’ll wait right outside of that.” He chuckles as he points in the direction of the toilet. “Would you rather have one of those fuckers in here with you?” he whispers into my ear, motioning toward the two thugs. The heat of his breath makes me shiver. I step back again.
Um. No. “Fine, cover your ears so you can’t hear me,” I huff.
Jett laughs out loud. A deep, sexy laugh. After I finish a much needed pee break, I come out of the room and wash my hands. My stomach grumbles. I wonder if they are going to starve me to make me talk. Man, I am really in a shitty situation. Jett leads me back to the bed and grabs the one hand with the cuffs still attached and locks it back to the headboard. At least this time I have one hand loose and my other hand is cuffed lower so it isn’t directly above my head.
“Thanks,” I say defeated and sit back against the headboard.
All three guys leave and a few minutes later Jett walks back in with a tray of food. He places it on the bed by me. A hamburger and sweet potato fries.
“Is it poisoned?” I ask snidely.
“I guess you’re going to have to eat it and find out,” he answers just as snidely.
It looks so good. I haven’t eaten anything since breakfast and I’m assuming it’s close to dinner, if not after. “What time is it?”
“Seven,” he responds.
He sits on the chair and watches me eat. The food is really good. I love sweet potato fries. So much so that I might have moaned a little. I glance at Jett, hoping he didn’t hear me. He has the sexiest grin on his face while he nods. Yep, pretty sure he heard me.
I notice that he shifts in his chair. Hmm… do I affect him as much as he does me? I can definitely use this to my advantage. After eating all my food, Jett takes the dishes and places them on the table.
“Is there a TV in here?” I ask.
“Do you think this is a fucking hotel?” He chuckles. Asshole.
“So if I get the pleasure of watching you all night as my entertainment, you could at least put on a show.” I arch my eyebrow and smile.
“I could say the same to you.” He smirks and winks.
Oh. I’m very competitive. Game on.
Smiling, I sit up a bit on the bed. His intense eyes are still on me, although I see a question in them now. He tilts his head while he crosses his arms. He’s wondering what I’m going to do. I slowly lift my top. I am definitely comfortable in my body. My bra and panties are not much different than a swimsuit. His eyes get bigger as I get ready to lift it over my bra. I continue up and over my head. Even though one hand is cuffed to the bed, I’m able to hang my shirt on the headboard. I glance over at Jett with hooded eyes as I run my free hand over my breasts. My nipples get hard. N
ow he’s fidgeting in his chair, adjusting himself. Then he gets up and storms out of the room.
Score one for Addison! I mentally high-five myself. I put my shirt back on and sit down against the headboard again. A few minutes later, Jett rolls in a TV. He’s pissed. For a guy who seems to always be in control, he’s not right now. This makes me very happy. After he plugs it in, he stalks over to me and throws the remote down by my side.
“There are fucking cameras everywhere in here,” he whispers in my ear, “so stop playing a fucking game.” His beautiful eyes bore into mine. The heat of his breath sends chills down my body. I’m irritated that he has this effect on me.
I grab the remote and turn the TV on and ignore him. I mindlessly switch channels trying to distract myself from a really pissed off Jett. “Do you like to watch anything?” Besides me? ”On TV? Bad Boys… The Enforcer… The Godfather?” I try to think of any movies that might reflect the situation I am in.
He twists his lips as he leans forward in his chair and places his elbows on his knees. “You know, it really bothers me that you don’t seem scared. You should be. You don’t know what you have got yourself involved in here.” I internally agree. I feel safe with Jett, but I’m not sure why. I definitely would have never stripped in front of Travis’s other guys. Maybe if I was lying on that cellar floor I’d be a lot more worried. I hope my false sense of security doesn’t come back and bite me in the ass.
“What the hell do you want me to do? I’ve told y’all who I am and why I was on the lawn. You don’t believe me. So now I’m being held here against my will with a bodyguard who looks like you…” I motion up and down his body with my free hand “…and you’re distracting! Sorry! I’m a smartass when I get nervous!” I throw the remote at his head and lie down. I blink back the tears. I’m not in the mood for TV anymore.
Chapter Eight
Jett
I CATCH THE remote flying for my head. What did I do? She says I’m distracting? I shake my head in disbelief. I’m the one who can’t do my job because she’s here. I’m just telling her like it is. I wish she’d just tell us who she is.
For fuck’s sake! Now I made her cry. This girl is going to be the death of me. I’ve never felt so much in one day. So much for the plan of seducing her to get her to talk. That shit backfired. Instead, she’s seducing me, doing that striptease. Her perfectly rounded breasts, flat, muscular stomach… I’ve never seen such an amazing body on a woman. My mouth watered seeing her hard nipples poke through her bra. Holy shit, I about lost a load watching her touch herself. And I might have if I hadn’t remembered that the whole house was probably watching this on the security camera. I need to pull my shit together when I’m around her. I definitely don’t want Travis to put one of his other goons in here to watch over her.
I don’t know what Travis plans to do with her but it needs to happen soon. Maybe I can talk him into letting her go. He’s hell-bent that she’s lying, and I’m not sure why. I don’t like being kept in the dark.
She finally falls asleep. I get up and grab a blanket to lay over her. I bring it up to her shoulders and lean over and whisper, “I’ll make sure nothing happens to you, sweetheart.” I breathe in her scent, my hands itching to touch her beautiful hair. Holy shit, I’ve never had a woman grab my attention like she has.
It’s only been one fucking day.
It has to be because she’s off limits. Her long, dark eyelashes flutter as she dreams. Fuck, I hope she’s dreaming about me. My eyes linger on her as she sleeps. Studying the outline of her body under the blanket, I have to force myself to leave. I could sit here all night and watch her. I turn the TV off and head out of the room before my hands take on a life of their own. I make sure to lock the door behind me.
* * *
“Travis, what the fuck?” I say, walking into his study. “You’re not usually one to kidnap women.”
“Jett, don’t question me. She’s lying. I need to know who she is,” he responds, not looking up from his chair. “I gave you the task of trying to find out who she is and what does she do? She strips for you! You didn’t seem to be talking much. I should be asking you what the fuck?”
Don’t worry, I’ve been asking myself that since the second I saw her face.
“Really, Travis? You wanted me to have her continue? That’s not gaining her trust. She was playing a game to see who would win.” I sigh, running my hands through my hair.
“Well, we know you didn’t win that round. Keep trying.” He dismisses me. I walk out frustrated with the lack of information he’s giving me.
Okay, I need a new game plan. I need her to gain my trust—and soon. Hopefully before my dick falls off from being sexually deprived. Maybe I just need to go out tonight, find one of my friends, and fuck that girl out of my system.
Walking back to my room, Joe stops me in the hallway. He’s sporting a sadistic smile. I hate this guy. And I’m not in the mood to talk, especially to him.
“Holy shit, dude! Why did you stop her! I was getting ready to start stroking myself. If I could have ten minutes with her, I’d show her who was boss.”
I can’t stop my fist from running into his face.
CRACK.
“Fucking asshole! I think you broke my nose!” Joe screams. Blood rushes through his fingers as he holds his nose.
“Don’t. Touch. Her.” I growl before stalking back to my room. I definitely don’t regret cold-cocking Joe. He deserved it talking about her that way. I don’t care who she is, but I’m sure Travis won’t be pleased.
I pull up her room on my computer’s security feed. She’s sleeping facing the camera. Damn, she gorgeous. Why can’t I look away? What is it about this woman that has me in so many knots? I scrub my hands across my face, running them through my hair. I sit back in my chair and just watch her. How am I going to get her to talk? My head hurts, my dick hurts from being semi-hard all day, and now my hand hurts. I shake it open and closed making sure I didn’t break it. Going out tonight is now the last thing on my mind.
Damn woman! And she thinks I’m distracting?
Chapter Nine
I WAKE UP confused. Where am I? Reaching for my face, I’m quickly reminded I’m still in this bed and still have handcuffs on. The sun shines into my room, making it a little too bright. I’m holding back tears thinking that Sydney is probably freaking out since I haven’t called her. She’s the only one who knows why I came to Chicago. Everyone thinks I’m on this wonderful vacation with a friend in Chicago. So wonderful, huh? I chuckle at myself, at the situation I got myself in. I cross my legs because I really need to pee. Like someone heard my thoughts, the door unlocks and opens. Great. Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Both are still carrying their guns. I figured Jett was behind them, but they come in and shut the door. Disappointment bubbles up.
What the hell, Addison? He’s not going to be your hero.
Joe has a bandage on his nose and has two black eyes. I wonder whose fist he ran into? I’m about to ask but since he’s hopefully here to let me go to the bathroom, I need to keep my mouth shut.
“Rise and shine, princess.” I wince at his nickname for me. I’d rather he call me a bitch. Joe comes over and unlocks my cuff. “Don’t fucking try anything, or from here on out you’ll be using your bed as your toilet.”
I stretch my arms. It feels good to be free. For a few minutes, at least. I take my time going to the bathroom and washing my hands. I notice on the sink there is a brand-new toothbrush, toothpaste, and a hairbrush.
“Is this stuff for me? I didn’t see it here yesterday?” I ask Joe, who thankfully didn’t come into the bathroom with me.
“I don’t know. Maybe your lover, Jett, brought them for you?” he says sarcastically.
My lover? What the hell is that about? I ignore him, opening all the new items. After a few minutes of washing my face, brushing my teeth and my hair, I feel much better. I look over to the shower and sigh. I really need a shower. I walk into the room dreading what’s waiting for me a
nd find Travis is back in his chair. Joe leads me to the bed and cuffs me again. He and his buddy then leave. I keep forgetting the other dude’s name.
“Good morning, Renee,” he says my mom’s name with such contempt that it sends shivers down my back.
“Thank you for the food last night,” I whisper, looking down for a second. I have no idea what his plans are for me, but at least he’s not letting me starve.
Travis nods. He stares at me again, his eyes always assessing me, searching for the truth, but no emotions show on his face. “Are you ready to tell me your real name today?”
“It hasn’t changed since yesterday. It’s still Renee Pearson.” I try to mask any emotion behind the name as I say it.
“How old are you, Renee?” he asks condescendingly.
Oh, shit. What did I tell Frankie to put down on my fake license? “Twenty.”
Travis twists his lips, thinking hard about something. Then nods to himself but doesn’t say anything.
“Why do you keep lying about your name?”
“Why don’t you believe me?”
“Because I know you’re lying.”
“How the fuck do you know I’m lying!” I scream in frustration as I get up on my knees in bed.
“Because Renee Pearson is dead!” Travis jerks up as he yells. The chair falls backward.
If any words can make me feel like a knife has been stabbed into my heart and twisted, it was those. I slide down the back of the headboard. He knows. He knew my mom.
“Did you murder her?” I ask, my voice trembling and barely a whisper. I can’t look at him.
